In my last post (which was from this morning, I believe) I mentioned feeling inspired. Well, this is what I made today, a brand new pattern for brand new 2011! Yes, I know, they are more chickens, but there is an owl there too, and a couple ducks! I just love me some chickens.
These images were inspired by a book from the fifties, full of images for you to get crafty with. Including how to get all those crazy sprayed textures and looks you see everywhere at the goodwill. I started hopping up and down when I found this book last summer. Its the holy grail of fifties design images. I kept flipping the pages saying to myself "I've see this one before, and that one on a wooden bowl, and this one on a lamp, and oh! is that how they do that?" Very exciting stuff.
So yeah, I'm going to embroider the hen and rooster from the top on something, perhaps starting today. I did sign up for fun-a-day pdx, which is a month long art project where you work on it every day for a month. I will embroider every day this month! It might not be a finished work when I am done, but its a good start to a new year!

Hey! I think I have that same book! Either that or they look familiar from my childhood...does that make me old?
Anyhow, love your new-millennium interpretations!
Cute Maggs.
It also reminds me of the crafts projects we had in the 60's---where you would outline the chicken with string, and then fill in the areas with different colored rocks, seeds, beans.
My best friend's mom had some in the dining area for years!
